There Will Be Disappointment: "There Will Be Blood" Review
There Will Be Blood review:
The quick version:
Why has a gifted filmmaker like Paul Thomas Anderson completely thrown out conventional movie storytelling?
There is almost no plot to hook you. No obvious meaning. Granted, I enjoy a movie with an obscure theme (like No Country For Old Men), but there’s got to be something going on on the surface that pulls me along for the ride.
There Will Be Blood had very little going for it save Daniel Day Lewis’ performance. Over-long, under-driven, unfocused mess of a character study.
Character studies are fine, just give me a plot I can follow while I study the character!
More later (maybe).
