‘The Glades’ Pilot Review!

the-glades

In all the madness that is crime drama television, most watchers can basically tell you what the show is about. Somebody gets murdered, there is an investigation and a twist that leads to the one person you knew right from the start that killed her. Shows like Criminal Minds, CSI and NCIS make a fortune off following this set routine and for one reason or another, people come back every single week to see the new case. Honestly, It’s quite addicting. I went to rehab for CSI:Miami. Just kidding.

The Glades premiered on A&E this past Sunday, the 11th. I was working during the Pilot episode so I went back on Comcast and checked it out, and it sure grabs attention. For any of you that watch CSI, it’s time to ditch the old Horatio and check out Jim, the lead character of this new drama. Jim, played by Matt Passmore is an awesome character, simply because he can hold the weight of the show. Trust me, this is not a show that takes itself to seriously, the dialogue is witty and funny and Matt carries and expresses it all extremely well.

Not only that, but the show manages to break away from the receptivity in little ways. Jim is a golfer, in the opening scenes of the Pilot episode we find him attempting to break 80 for the first time in a golf game. Receiving a call about a murder, he stops the game, leaves the ball in the spot he was about to hit from and blocks it off with police tape, talk about determination. Of course he returns later in the game to finish, but it shows just how funny and interesting he really is.

When it comes to the shows script and story, the writers do little things to keep things interesting. Jim’s first visit to the crime scene, which we expect him to find a major clue, leads to an unexpected alligator bite to the hand, which carries over into some other elements that make the shows story move. While Jim’s witty dialogue keeps him interesting, people might find some little things about the show a little predictable. Such as the basic premise of find a body and investigate that this Pilot leads us to believe will be the rest of the series.

If you’re a CSI fan, I highly recommend this show. If your not a CSI fan, then check this out and give it a chance. It surely is a breath of fresh air. Now, this is all based off of the Pilot episode I saw, so whatever happens later in the show that ruins it, cant blame me for your disappointment.

Check out The Glades this Sunday at 10pm, it’s well worth the watch.

Love this (dialogue from the pilot, not exactly correct but close enough):

Jim: Maybe you killed her.

Witness: Why would I tell you everything if I killed her?

Jim: I don’t know, maybe you’re a moron?
