You Gotta Hear This.

Crabcore. D00d.

crabcoreCrabcore is the art of synchronizing a bands moves on stage to create what one would call “stage presence”. While a bands stage presence can determine whether you hang around and watch the band, getting into their set or just standing with your arms crossed wishing you saved your money. It’s only been a year or so since the term “crabcore” has been put fully into motion, starting with bands like Attack Attack! when members wore their sisters clothes and danced around, well, like crabs. Each member of a “crabcore” group would bend at the knees in awkward ways and place themselves as close to the ground as possible, showing how flexible they might be. When their not doing air splits, the band will plan specific moments to jump or flip the guitar, something that is “cool” to do on stage.

Whatever happened to the good old days when a band would have fun playing a show the normal way, without all the gymnastic moves. It has been said that this style of stage presence is to amp up the energy the bands already give off, and obviously your not giving off that much energy if in order to get a crowd into you, you have to dance on stage with your instruments. Today, so many bands have labeled themselves in the “crabcore” sub-genre now, one of these bands being Abandon All Ships, an electronica based post hardcore group out of the UK. In their premiere music video for “Take One Last Breath”, the entire band does one thing at the same exact time as one another, and although the song isnt horrible, watching these fools do it makes me giggle.

If you have a band featured in the “crabcore” phenomenom, than don’t take yourself that serious. Sure you might get signed to Rise Records, whom loves crabs, but dont think of yourself as the best. There are good bands out there that label themselves as “crabcore”, but they know that what they do is for fun and never will they consider themselves the best. Sometimes crabcore is fun though, I always wanted to see one of these guys fall and actually do a split… dOOd.

The main reason for me ranting about this is the fact that it seems to be taking over, like every single band in the world needs to by synchronized on stage for viewing pleasure. Oh yeah, I enjoy watching it, it makes me laugh. Crabcore is a fine example of a band burrowing themselves in the sand, like a crab.

Now for your viewing pleasure, the debut music video of “Take One Last Breath”, the first single from the Abandon All Ships debut album. Crabcore.
