You Gotta Hear This.

remaking a nightmare

My generalized hatred for Michael Bay precedes me in almost all the circles that will be reading this, that said, it can be assumed that I wanted to not like this. Safe to say that as I sat with an unamused look on my face beside my girlfriend, who hates scary movies, and just behind a bunch of giggling teenagers, that I really, honestly was prepared to tell everyone I wasted ten bucks. Some nights you go out knowing you hate your responsibilities as a movie reviewer.

Tonight is no different, well, maybe a little. Tonight I hate my job because I have to recommend people see a Michael Bay movie, but not just a movie that should suck, but a remake of an American horror classic. While I wish Hollywood would come up with an original idea for once, this was actually done close to right. It isn’t scary, though. A couple jump moments here and there, but mostly predictable. The movie is fun to watch, however, if you get a theater with some jumpy girls in it. The horror movie atmosphere is completed every time someone in the dark screams. Even if you know it’s coming, and those of us familiar with the formula do, there always seems to be someone in the room who does not.

I don’t want to compare the movie to the original, because it wouldn’t be fair of me, since I have not seen it since I was very young, and because looking back it now, you might have to take into account the advances in movie technologies.
